Athletics
Students in grades seven through twelve have the opportunity to participate in the sports program of HCA. Sports available for participation for the boys are soccer and basketball. Girls may participate in volleyball in the fall. Basketball for girls is on the horizon.
Our athletic program is an important part of our junior and high school curriculum. As such, it provides certain opportunities and emphasizes definite aims difficult to duplicate in other school activities. Among them are the following:
1. Athletics gives players and coaches alike an opportunity to witness for Christ by actions and words.
2. Students are taught to accept decisions and responsibilities in a Christ-like manner.
3. The intense emotional situation in competitive sports is a maturing factor without equal. Students who engage in athletics learn more about their strengths and weaknesses.
4. Athletics provide for rapid physical development and give participants satisfaction in accomplishment that few other activities can match.
5. While the “winning at all costs” mentality is not tolerated, the desire to win is emphasized because only in that manner will each participant try to do his very best. This is necessary throughout life. This is what God expects of us.
6. Athletics provide an opportunity to use one’s God-given talents.
